Sound bytes like ‘Lean in!’ and ‘ You can’t have it all!’ echo around us like tinnitus. They lull us into a false sense of security compelling us to believe we have made it to the frontlines in this war for equality. There is no doubt some of us have, but we need to step out of the bubble. Jean Sasson’s book goes some way in waking us up. It helps us keep in mind that for many women around the world, ‘Leaning in’ is the least of their problems.
My review of Jean Sasson’s new novel on the Middle East in The New Indian Express.
